Save the Date – Tara and Andreas

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

You might remember Andreas from earlier this year, when we first introduced him.

Well, he’s fallen in love, and has proposed to his long time girl, the beautiful Tara.  Their story might sound familiar to some; they grew up in the same ocean town, had the same friends, went to the same school – but never met.  Not until many years later, when a friend hosted a BBQ at the Jersey Shore and their love for seafood and all things beach got them talking.

Together for 2 years they spend their summers in Manasquan NJ, peeling shrimp for the many BBQ’s they either attend or host.   They often go to concerts, and we have heard Tara has been known to cut up a rug quite regularly.

For the last few months, our HQ was abuzz with Andreas’ pre-engagement.  We had all seen the ring many times and watched Andreas grow more and more excited (nervous, totally freaking out) every day.   Being a talented artist (and we like to think deep romantic), Andreas used his skill to make a memory book of their time together.   Lyrics, inside jokes and beautiful photographs were laid out, effortlessly, as only a graphic artist could – included in the book was a mix CD of their favorite songs.  Honestly, how could this girl say no?

So the day to pop the question arrives.  First a bird sends its luck right on Andreas’ head and then he steps in gum.  Unhinged, he trudges forward and when night sets in, he and Tara find themselves on the beach (surprised?).   On one knee, Andreas proposes – she says yes.

We couldn’t be happier for this amazing couple and we wish Tara all the best.

Magnet of the week WINNER!

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Congratulations to our Magnet of the week winner!  Unfortunately, he who designed this must remain nameless.  This is top secret Gable family business.  All we know, is that there are about 52 of them meeting in Philly in 2012.  We speculate there will be ceremonies for the older folk, handshakes and embraces, perhaps even games and rituals.

My source tells me that this custom magnet is being given away to each member of the Gable family in some kind of “Goody Bag”, with many other offerings and favors. First rule about the Gable Family goody bag; you don’t talk about the goody bag.  This is a major surprise.  Well, you can’t talk about it until everyone has received one.  Then the Gable family can share what they received, be grateful for the effort involved and admire the design and quality of this prestigious magnet.

Congrats Gable family, sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun!

Top 4 Father’s Day Gifts

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Did you buy dear ol’ dad another tie for Father’s Day this year?

Instead of a tie, we decided to give you five of the best magnet ideas in case you hadn’t already picked something up for dad, granddad or whoever the special man in your life is.

1. Football Magnets: What better way than to let everyone in the house know when not to talk to dad. Gameday doesn’t have to just be for pro football either. It could be a schedule of junior’s football games or some other big way to signify love of the game.

2. Car Magnets: Fantasy sports fans might love a chance to showcase their favorite team’s logo on a team specific magnet. Magnets.com can make that happen! Sure, the neighbors will be confused when they see and might ask, “What team is that?” But think of the conversation starter!

3. School Magnets: Maybe a school play magnet? Or a school calendar magnet to remind day when to pick the little guy up from school? No matter, these school magnets are always a hit.

4. Baseball Magnets: If the dad in your life isn’t a football guy, how about a baseball magnet? They come in all shapes and sizes, too. Perhaps a baseball card magnet of dad’s favorite hometown slugger? The possibilities abound!

DIY Magnetic Darts

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

We love playing darts but let’s face it those pointy and sharp darts can poke an eye out if you’re not careful. Taking this into consideration we decided to create a safer dart game using magnets. As you can see our good friend Jason (a dart champion) had a blast testing out our game and gave it a big THUMBS UP!

Support Japan Flag

Monday, March 28th, 2011

The devastating effects of the two earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan has broken the hearts and spirits of people around the world. Our love and support goes out to our friends in Japan who are trying to rebuild their lives, and we dedicate our very own flag design to them.

After some fidgeting around with our magnetic pieces, here are the final results:

Our team member loved the design so much that he was more than happy to sport our support Japan flag magnet design on his Jeep.

Spring is finally here! It’s a nice, warm and sunny day with a high of 61 degrees here in New Jersey. Since we got struck with spring fever, we decided to add some flare to a Magnets.com team member’s 92′ Dodge Dakota pick-up truck!

Will Magnets Stick to Your Colleague?

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Today we look at a dazzling question asked throughout the ages —–”will magnets stick to your colleague? Being all things magnets, we took the bull by the horns looking for answers.

For today’s experiment, one of our graphic designers Andreas was kind enough to volunteer himself -and just a wee bit of his dignity- for the sake of science and human knowledge.  And speaking of bull, of popular (and cute) cow shaped magnet was randomly selected and put to the test.

So, today’s carefully controlled experiment proves a 25 mil magnet won’t stick to your colleague.  Indeed, a bit of a letdown, at least in our book.

Rockin’ with Rockstars!

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

A Kodak moment: The lead singer Jared Watson of the rock/reggae band Dirty Heads is kickin’ back with one of our Magnets at the Backstage Artist Lounge! I’m definitely a fan of rock-reggae fusion and the Dirty Heads are fantastic!
